Hello 👋

The first step is completed! You opened this article and want to learn more about this year’s Summer Internships! It’s precisely this proactiveness and willingness to learn that we are looking for in this new edition of RedLight's Summer Internships.

The structure will be very similar to the one used in the past editions: A team of junior designers and developers working on a real project with 2 months full of mentoring, workshops and fun! Unlike the last two years, this edition will be carried out in person at RedLight's offices with the possibility of a hybrid model. Find out more details about the internship in the rest of the article!👇

How is the internship organised? 👀

The team will consist of you and 3 more interns, and we hope to have proportional distribution of designers and developers capable of building a digital platform. The project itself will be kept secret for now. 🤫

We’ll try to keep it as true to life as possible. You will:

  • Ideate and prototype an idea;
  • Define requirements for the project;
  • Design high and low fidelity mockups;
  • Perform user testing and research;
  • Implement your idea;
  • Review code, do quality assurance and test the product;
  • Launch!

This is the process:

Kick-off 🚀

During the first few days, we’ll give you the opportunity to explore the office and meet everyone with whom you’ll be working over the next two months. This initial period will be full of workshops and small fun activities to facilitate your integration into the team and learn the tools you will use during the internship.

Requirements specification 🗂

Before starting the project's development, you’ll need guidance on what to create! By gathering requirements and ideation, you will better understand the project you will be working on.

Development 👩‍💻

Once the project is defined, the designers on the team can start designing creative mockups that are perfect down to the millimetre, and the developers will bring them to life through intense weeks of work.

Final presentation 🏆

At the end of the internship, the team will present the progress made during the two months of the internship to the entire RedLight team and the rest of the Nest Collective community. This presentation will be followed by a small party to celebrate your work.

How will the workshops work? 👨‍🏫

Do you remember how it was mentioned in the previous section that there would be an initial period full of workshops? We didn’t lie to you! Over the past editions, it has always been RedLight’s objective that its interns learn from experienced members of the community. The topics of these workshops will cover all tools (e.g., programming languages) and methods (e.g., design sprints and agile methodologies) used in the project. That way, developers will better understand the design world and vice versa!

And beyond the project and the workshops? 🎮

RedLight is known for its strong organisational culture, which is fully transmitted in the summer internships. You’ll share with RedLight’s team a space in downtown Coimbra equipped with a ping-pong table, arcade games, Xbox, all kinds of snacks and drinks and super comfortable sofas to rest after a long day at work.

In the evenings, we regularly organise barbecues and other events at the Nest Collective, where you can socialise with the rest of the community. In addition to these events, we’ll also arrange a celebration of the summer internships with special activities 🚣🏻

When and where? 🗓

If you know RedLight well and have read this article very carefully, you’ll already know the answer to this last question!

  • Two months — Beginning of July to the beginning of September
  • At RedLight’s offices at the Nest Collective Downtown

Any change in the date or place of the internships will be duly informed on our social media or sent to the applicant’s emails. We will also have the flexibility to change dates depending on the availability of our interns.

I love it. How do I sign up? 🖊

It’s super simple! The form will be open until the 22nd of May, and you can access it here.

The application process will be quick and straightforward. We’ll start with a brief phone conversation to understand if your profile aligns with our goals. If that’s the case, you’ll be invited to come to our offices for an informal interview (this can also be done remotely if necessary). You’ll receive a technical challenge to submit online if you stand out. Don’t worry about the lack of time or skills, we are very flexible 😇

You guarantee your spot if you have the right profile and you’re a boss in both the interview and the challenge!

Thank you,
